Today we're discussing the growing cult of the Andrew Tate phenomenon with human development and performance expert, Dan Stanley.
Dan is a retired award-winning senior army commando, a contributor in a multi-million-pound service business, and the former owner of a successful fitness company. Until recently, he was also the national champion in indoor rowing across multiple distances.
Dan now runs an exclusively male coaching business, BetterMen, which has helped hundreds of men with their wellbeing. His expertise allows him to explain why the cult of Andrew Tate is growing.
Dan believes that in the wake of the pandemic, war in Europe, and Brexit, it's unsurprising that someone like Andrew Tate has established a voice. Social media has given him a platform, and whoever shouts the loudest gets heard.
But the main reason why men are following Andrew Tate's message is that boys, adolescent teens, and men are feeling lost. Tate gets their attention with his form of masculinity. However, Dan thinks that the current form of masculinity is dysfunctional. Phrases like "man up" or "big boys don't cry" are holding men back.
Dan believes we should be encouraging boys and men to focus on positive role models such as David Beckham and Tyson Fury. Men and women should not be competing, but instead, we should be role modelling for the next generation.
Dan speaks from personal experience after going through his own midlife crisis. He understands the "myth of masculinity," and he is passionate about helping other men find that personal success doesn't equal happiness.
Dan's book, Rethinking Masculinity: A Modern Man’s Guide to Succeeding in Life, was published last year. If you're interested in learning more about Dan's coaching, check out BetterMen or Men & Mountains.
