Trainline helps job seekers

According to a recent study by Trainline, 64% of 16 to 24-year-olds are looking for a new role to establish themselves in their chosen career. However, pursuing a new job can be expensive, with an average spend of £103.15, including new clothes, travel, and sustenance.

To support young job seekers, Trainline has launched "The Interview Store" which provides visitors with a free interview outfit, discounted train travel, and a session with a career coach. Alice Stapleton, who leads the one-to-one sessions, notes that interviews can be nerve-wracking, with many feeling anxious and under pressure. The Interview Store aims to provide individuals with the tools to tackle the recruitment process and help them feel prepared and confident for their interview.

The study found that 73% of adults find the interview process stressful, with 34% revealing they get nervous because they fear there will be an intimidating interviewer. Additionally, 19% of 16 to 24-year-olds worry potential employers will conclude they are under-qualified for the job. Furthermore, 22% claim not to know how to dress for interviews, while 42% admit to stressing about their appearance.

Virtual interviews have become more commonplace since the pandemic, with 44% having had an interview via video call. However, 21% still purchased new formal attire for the occasion, and 32% dressed formally from the waist up only.

Trainline's initiative highlights the challenges young job seekers face and provides practical support to overcome them.

Mike Hyde, Chief Data Officer at Trainline, notes that pursuing a new job can be a stressful and expensive process, and the Interview Store aims to support job seekers by providing free clothing and discounted travel, as well as advice on how to overcome confidence issues and handle tricky questions.
